Tuition Assistance for Catholic School Students… Since 2010 the parish has offered tuition assistance to parish families who enroll their children in Catholic schools. This year we plan to do the same. The monies for this tuition assistance come from the interest that the parish receives on our savings. Both the Saint Victor Pastoral Council and Finance Council have agreed that the parish should continue this worthwhile program.
Bishop Zubik has begun a process to create a plan to make Catholic school education more available to areas of the diocese where Catholic schools are scarce. As part of this initiative, the Bishop has told the pastors that every parish should support Catholic schools. Here at Saint Victor’s we send money to the Bishop’s Education Fund which supports the operations of the Catholic schools that serve our parishioners and we help the parishioners themselves with tuition assistance. Parents who send their children to Catholics schools make great sacrifices to meet the expenses of Catholic education through tuition payments, and usually tuition costs rise every year.
Saint Victor parishioners who send their children to Catholic grade or high schools may apply for tuition assistance by filling out and returning a Catholic School Tuition Assistance Request Form. These are available in the back of the church or from the Rectory. Children enrolled in grades K-12 are eligible. (Note: no assistance will be available for pre-schoolers.) Applications for assistance are due no later that July 31, 2017.
I believe it is important to offer the best faith formation we can here in the parish through our own programs as well as offer support to families who send their children to Catholic schools.
Happy Fourth of July… This prayer for our nation was composed by Bishop John Carroll of Baltimore in 1791. We pray Thee O God of might, wisdom, and justice! Through whom authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment decreed, assist with Thy Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude the President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and be eminently useful to Thy people over whom he presides; by encouraging due respect for virtue and religion; by a faithful execution of the laws in justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality.
Let the light of Thy divine wisdom direct the deliberations of Congress, and shine forth in all the proceedings and laws framed for our rule and government, so that they may tend to the preservation of peace, the promotion of national happiness, the increase of industry, sobriety, and useful knowledge; and may perpetuate to us the blessing of equal liberty.
