Memorial Day...This week’s celebration of Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer for most people. Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day, set aside to remember those who died serving our nation. Processions would lead to cemeteries where war dead were buried and their graves would be decorated with flowers. Bands included in the processions would play funeral dirges and many would wear black.

Over time observance of Memorial Day has changed. It has become a time for the first summer picnic or a three day getaway. Business people promote sales and entertainment and vacation venues are crowded. I encourage you all to include attendance at the 9:00am on Monday to keep this holiday one of special remembrance for our nation’s war dead.

Congratulations and Blessings to all our Parish Graduates… O God, source of all wisdom, may the labor that led to our students’ graduation prepare them for a happier and holier life! As you have guided them with wisdom and love, keep them close to you in the days and years ahead. We ask this through Christ our Lord, AMEN!

2016 Summer Raffle… The Saint Victor 2017 Summer Raffle will be based on the Pennsylvania Daily Lottery. There will be $10,000 in prizes awarded. The tickets will cost $20.00 and will be good for Daily Drawings during the month of September. There will be $250 awarded every Monday-Friday and $500 awarded for the winning ticket each Saturday and Sunday.

Within the next few weeks we hope to begin selling tickets for this year’s Raffle. There are two important needs to make this raffle a success. First, we need to sell all 1000 tickets. If there is a day when the winning ticket has not been sold, we must have a drawing of all available winners so that all the prize money will be awarded. Second, we need to identify SELLERS, that is individuals who will take 10, 20 or more tickets to sell to their neighbors, co-workers and friends.

The Summer Raffle provides needed income for the parish every year. Last year’s proceeds from the Summer and Holiday Raffles provided income to pay for the new boiler that will be installed this summer. Please help with this special fund-raiser!
