Reflections on Labor and Work from Pope Francis... Work is fundamental to the dignity of a person.   Work, to use an image, "anoints" us with dignity, fills us with dignity, makes us similar to God, who has worked and still works, who always acts... (5/1/13)

I wish to extend an invitation to solidarity to everyone, and I would like to encourage those in public office to make every effort to give new impetus to employment, this means caring for the dignity of the person, but above all I would say do not lose hope... (5/1/13)

There is no worse material poverty, I am keen to stress, than the poverty which prevents people from earning their bread and deprives them of the dignity of work. (5/25/13) Mass on Labor Day will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m.

Collections during September… There are a number of special collections during the month of September. On the weekend of September 10-11 is the annual Bishop’s Education Fund collection which provides assistance for needy families sending their children to Catholic schools. The following weekend, September 17-18 is the annual Mission Co-op collection. Father Anthony representing the Society of African Missions will preach at all Masses, and a second collection will be taken up for this Mission ministry. Bishop Zubik has asked all parishes in the Diocese to take up a special collection for the victims of flooding in Louisiana. This collection will be taken up at all Masses on the weekend of September 24-25. I know it may be difficult to have so many special appeals during so short a time, but always remember: “when we are generous to those in need, the Lord will be generous to us.” Thank you all in advance for your generosity!

Canonization of Mother Teresa… will take place in Rome today September 5. Her feast day will be observed on September 5. One of Saint Teresa’s most famous quotes: If we PRAY, we will BELIEVE; if we BELIEVE, we will LOVE; if we LOVE, we will SERVE. Saint Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us!

Next Weekend, September 10-11 The parish weekend mass schedule changes next weekend:   Masses will be celebrated at 4:00 pm on Saturdays and 8:00 am, 10:45 am and 12:15 pm on Sundays.
